| Posted: | | | | We've added the ability to block private messages between users. You may access this feature from the My Profiler section of the site.
Blocks are mutual, so if you've blocked a user, neither they nor you will be able to send a PM to each other.
Although this change may hinder the ability of users to give feedback on contributions, the privacy of users, and the freedom of users from harassment, must be paramount.
Please note that if you choose to test this feature, existing PMs will not be deleted, only hidden and marked as "read". |

Nice feature. I was able to successfully block a user then didn't see any of their past PMs to me. Unblock them and they show up again. | | | "the main database is protected by many fanatics who argue minutia over the rules hour after hour, day after day, year after year" - Cliff | | | Last edited: by MarkEJHarrison |

| Posted: | | | | Won't bother me at all, Mark. Difference bretween me and most other users as any of you have had PM converstaions with me can probably attest, is that I try to be polite with all users, even the ones that i get who have a chip on their shoulder and their response is to be abusive. Doesn't faze me at all, this user will block no one.Not even Heathen of FilmFanSea who sent me an extraordinarily nasty PM after I tried to advise him some of the errors in his Contribution, which did not in ANY way conform to the Rules.
In my humble opinion those that might choose to use such tools are hiding and their use says far more about them than it does me

Of course not. But you won't be able to PM people who are breaking the rules any more either. Or those who aren't paying attention and vote yes on bad contributions (like I've been known to do)
It's very cool, but I don't see myself using it. I actually like getting PMs from you telling me where I cast a bad vote. That way I don't have to pay attention to what I'm doing. | | | "the main database is protected by many fanatics who argue minutia over the rules hour after hour, day after day, year after year" - Cliff | | | Last edited: by MarkEJHarrison |

| Posted: | | | | Well now that is a good point, Mark. In that case I may become less patient with people who ignore the Rules in either their Contributions or their voting. And we all make mistakes, my friend and I to too take PM's to heart on mistakes in Contributions and in voting and far more often than not, as you know, I will make a correction immediately.

That wouldn't be me would it, Cathy?
If so...I hope that our initial butting-of-heads has been forgotten. No hard feelings and all that!?
If it was me.....I'm still around. I read the threads to keep up with what's happening and any changes I might need. I just don't 'get involved' as much. Too much stress involved.

I like this statement....bold added by me....nowhere does he say feedback on voting. | Posted: | | | | My friend, Unicus, in my view this is a quality control issue and I have a real problem when users do not wish to be able to be hel accountable for what they do. I receive many PM's on miscast votes of mistakes I have made in a Contribution and I for one appreciate the feedback from ANY user. I hold myself accountable to every user in the Community. Most times when someone PM's me, I fix the error immediately, if not sooner<BG>, sometimes I will engage in a discussion of various issues but this is not all that common.
So as I said I have a basic issue with any user who wishes to function in the dark and accountable to no one.

| Posted: | | | | You already know where I stand on this Skip. MY contributions, PM me if there is a mistake. My votes on someone else's contribution, don't bother. And I am not alone in this area.
You don't mind getting PMs on your votes, that is fine. Your willingness to accept them, however, does not trump someone else's desire not to accept them.
I told you that unwanted PMs could be considered harassment and IVS could be held accountable if they didn't do something to prevent them. As I recall, you laughed at me. Didn't mean to derail the thread....so back on topic....
This is a good question. Will the person you block be able to see that they are blocked? Or will they be given the impression that you read the PM and simply chose not to respond? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Well I guess that answers that....I got this message.
This user is in your blocked users list, either by your choice or theirs. Private messages are not possible to this user.
Experiment successful I guess. Thanks Lithurge. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
