| Posted: | | | | As the size and scope of our database grows, we anticipated that our existing contribution system would require improvements in order to achieve the accuracy goals we have set and those expected by our users. The rate of growth is exceeding our expectations and as a result accuracy has suffered.
In order to combat this trend, we are accelerating plans to gradually roll out improvements to the contribution system. This will have an impact on the release of DVD Profiler Pocket, however, we feel strongly that existing customers of our existing products must come first, and we are very conscious of the growing dissatisfaction with the limitations of the current system.
The following are some current steps planned for immediate implementation over the next days and weeks. Feedback on these is welcome, but please be aware that this list is limited to the changes scheduled for immediate implementation, and does not rule out larger changes under consideration for later implementation.
Complete Require user comparison of existing profile before upload (implemented, version 2.3) Post contribution notes in a public forum for each profile (implemented, version 2.3) Require user viewing of these notes before upload (implemented, version 2.3) Contributions submitted without notes now post into the contribution notes forum with an appropriate comment (Implemented Feb 3) Contributions from versions earlier than 2.3 are now declined automatically (Implemented Feb 3) Formalized the database update schedule - it will now occur once per week, every Wednesday (Implemented Feb 2) Private message functionality on the website added so that users may communicate regarding contributions directly (Implemented Feb 3) The contribution note forum messages are now updated when the contribution is evaluated to reflect whether they were accepted or declined (Implemented Feb 5, will affect contributions submitted on or after Feb 5) Users are now be able to see the status of their recent contributions in the My Profiler section for contributions in queue and those processed within the last 30 days (Implemented Feb 6) In the contribution status list, users may now withdraw a contribution that has not yet been processed. (Implemented Feb 9) Contribution notes will include a link to view the actual submitted profile (Implemented Feb 14) The Database section is now available, and will show titles in your collection for which there are available updates. Users may view a comparison of the existing profile against the newly submitted profile and vote Yes or No for each contribution. (Implemented Feb 14) The current accepted profile will have options to submit a lock request for each aspect of the profile (title, audio tracks, actors, crew, etc)(Implemented Mar 6) Once 3 or more lock requests are received for an aspect, it is hard locked, and contributions that violate that lock will be automatically declined.(Implemented Mar 6)
Under Development The next version of DVD Profiler will restrict contributions to users with a valid alias and current email address (plan is to require revalidation of email address every 3 months) Once a lock request is received on a particular aspect, the contribution evaluator will receive a warning when evaluating a contribution that violates that lock. If it is accepted, the lock requests are cleared The next release of DVD Profiler will notify the user when this occurs. The next release of DVD Profiler will require contribution notes Users may also submit unlock requests for an aspect, along with a note explaining why. Unlocks require IVS personnel approval. | | | Last edited: by Ken Cole |

| Posted: | | | | One suggestion I would like to make that shouldn't be too time consuming, but would (hopefully) have a big payoff is updated Contribution Guidelines.
The new fields, particularly the sound and music crew fields, could use some clarification. |

I'll third that suggestion. If they can't take the time to make a note, just toss it.
Quote: This section will also show the contributions in queue, with the option to vote yea or nay on each.
I made this suggestion a long, long, long time ago. Glad to see someone was either listening or at least thinking along the same lines.

I also agree with this one also - as I wrote in another thread "If someone can't be bothered to spend 30 seconds writing a quick note, then how likely is it that they will have been bothered to check the profile correctly!?"
