Also, is it wrong to scan my own covers instead of paying for the high-resolution ones? I only have 60 DVDs, and the banners don't bother me. I've made a promise to myself to buy it at the 100 disc mark. | | | "The cinema is not the station, it is the train."-- Jean-Luc Godard. |

There's nothing wrong with scanning your own covers and continuing to use the "free" version. That's why it is offered for free.
Personally, I think this application is worth every penny of the $25 they ask for the Premium registration...and more!! | | | Hal

| Posted: | | | | I would say YES to "Custom" on Band of Brothers! The hub that holds the discs is attached to the metal case. If it were not attached and could be removed and used on the shelf separate from the metal case it would be a hub. In my opinion this set has a "Custom" case. | | | Dan W

| Posted: | | | | If I remember to do so, I'll scan a drawer (with the drawer open) tonight and email it to you. I still have at least 2 of these: Dead Man Walking and Portrait of a Lady. I might have another I've forgotten about, but I hate these things with a passion. Guaranteed scratch-o-rama! I really ought to stick the discs into Amarays and make up a cover for them; maybe this will be an incentive for me to do so.
If by 'book' you mean like a quadruple alpha, I've got a few of those too and will take a shot of it with the digital camera for you. There's also a booklike jewel case type. Would you like a shot of that too? Now if I can just remember what title is packed like that.....

Next thread we need is one about how to scan straight or correct with photoshop (too many of my DVDs have slanted scans)
If you're using Photoshop a quick and easy way to straighten a scanned image is to use the Measure Tool. It’s in the same spot as the Eyedropper tool, click and hold till a menu pops out. With the measure tool find a line, the longer the better, that should be straight and start at one end and drag to the other. Then go to the Image menu then Rotate Canvas -> Arbitrary. The angle and correct rotation direction should be set, check to be sure, and then hit ok.
Oh yeah. Dan, nice job on the case types.

| Posted: | | | | Just want to let everyone know that gardbolt sent me a scan of a "Drawer" case and I added it to the list. I have added a sample of a "Book" case in a post below that. I'll work on it later and get it added to the list as well. | | | Dan W

| Posted: | | | | I totally agree with the info above (some of it I've never ever seen, so I was in doubt) but I still have a quirk... what if there's 2 cases? I mean, like T2 Ultimate/Extreme, the Disney treasures cases, the new fifth element UK, Nausicaa R2 Japan, etc? For me they are custom cases but some ppl consider them regular keep cases because that's what they have inside... Any clarification?

| Posted: | | | | It seems that the majority want to use the case type that is inside if it can be taken out and used separately because that is how they place it on their shelf at home. If it is attached to the outer "Custom" case, as with Band of Brothers (hub attached inside a tin), then it is considered a "Custom" case.
If you want my opinion, I think it should be the case as you find it on the shelf at the store (the outer case).

My thoughts EXACTLY!! I've always battled for this concept... after all It's their original appearance, otherwise what would be the point of Boxed sets and special editions? Every dvd would come in a plain amaray case... |

| Posted: | | | | I would agree also. If it's sold in a custom doodad with a case inside, it should be listed as custom.
Glad that one of those drawer cases was finally good for something! They're even worse than I remember--there's no spindle for the hole so they just float around inside the case getting scratched. Yuck! What engineer came up with this bright idea? |

| Posted: | | | | Onther vote for going by outer case. Unless it's just a sleeve or slipcover, then I'd go by the innards. | | | Do you like commentaries? |

| Posted: | | | | Kind of difficult to have it both ways I think. If we want to go by outside cover then I think we would need to stay with it throughout. Otherwise we just set it up for confusion later on. | | | Dan W
