You make a VERY valid point and I will NOT pretend to be an expert in matters related to Studios and DVD Distribution is Europe or elsewhere and I am we aware that some times there can be a different company involved relating to various areas of release. I will however be happy to add region specific information to the above list as I receive it.
Keven I do not view DVD Production Studio as an important issue at all, they seem to me, at this moment to carry little importance and operate largely in the background. I think that probably to 98% percent of the people asked Casablanca Studio, would respond with Warner Bros.

Can't filter on Description Field.... I knew there was some reason I want to see DVD Distributor listed. I forgot about filtering on it. | | | Ken Hershberger Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines. I’d like you to take a look at this gun. Copyright at the end of credits says "Sony Music Entertainment", which ahs multiple dates so includes the video copyrights. There is also an "Automatic Production" listed on the DVD case and in the end credits.
What should I list for Studio(s)? | | | nolesrule My DVD Collection | | | Last edited: by nolesrule |

| Posted: | | | | FYI, the Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment label is apparently being phased out. They're (slowly) moving to Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and new pressings of existing discs may or may not change the name of the label, so care will need to be taken on this point. Presumably like the SRP, the original distributor should be named on the profile, assuming the UPC doesn't change? | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

If CMV and SME are all that are involved I would list both.

I know and once I have a clear picture of what Sony plans to do I will make the necessary adjustment, my suspicion is that the film divisions will not change, the DVD Distribution arm I an less sure of.

| Posted: | | | | I think that's right, Skip. There's too much value in the "Columbia Pictures" name (and the lady with the torch ), and to a lesser extent the TriStar name and the Pegasus for them to stop using them on film releases. As far as I can tell, there are still going to be several film divisions with different names, but the plan (which seems to be working haphazardly thus far) is to wrap all or most of the DVD distribution into SPHE. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

I believe this is correct - anytime when the the company name is used as normal text - both on the box, in the closing credits and on their website, it is stated with the '.'
The logo does not include the '.', but this is purely asthetic reasons, and if we are match the logo exactly it should be "LUCASFILM LTD". |

| Posted: | | | | Can someone tell me why "The Criterion Collection" ever goes into the Desc field since any other DVD company is listed as a studio? I once endeavored to remove these Descs, but they were quickly restored and I don't see much point to ping ponging on this. But I don't really see that it makes much sense, except perhaps in such cases where it fulfills the explicit function of the Desc field, i.e. where the same movie is available from another company, which is true some but not most of the time with Criterion releases. |

As you mentioned, sometimes (rarely) the same movie has a non Criterion version. Then it's actually valid. For the others, I think it's nice to see some uniformity.
I've also seen this field used for personal reasons. "Fox Studio Classics" is another example. Sometimes when you're particularly proud of certain discs or a series or something, it's nice to make them stand out in some special manner.
I'm guilty. On the other hand, I almost never contribute, so it really doesn't matter in my case. | | | "the main database is protected by many fanatics who argue minutia over the rules hour after hour, day after day, year after year" - Cliff |

| Posted: | | | | Actually, Fox Studio Classics is a particular series, not the issuer -- Fox puts out other stuff as well. Whether it's a mark to be proud of now that they've honored Return to Peyton Place is another question.... I too use Desc for particular series, e.g. Midnite Movies. I have used it for the various series MGM uses to label its movies, but have not been consistent. Criterion, on the other hand, is Criterion, right? Or should Criterion be considered a series put out by, who is it, Wellspring or somebody? |

| Posted: | | | | I think users for the last five years have used Lucasfilm or Lucasfilm Ltd., no one I am aware of uses the All caps version or it would show up in my Studio Database, when I get around to putting that together, it would be properly listed as
Lucasfilm, Ltd.
