I got it to work:

Sweet, I got it to work too, using your installation instructions. You rule Andrea Whitlock. Was the author receptive to your excellent suggestions? Oddly enough, on his page he says he doesn't even use dvd profiler. I wonder what motivated him to write the program... |

| | Posted: | | | | I can't believe I actually got this to work with on my hosted Web site! It was a little weird as they only have a web interface to manage your MySQL databases.. The results are here:

| | Posted: | | | | Actually, I've been playing around with this program for a little while, making some functional and cosmetic changes (with some suggestions from andrea, of course). I just haven't decided if I'm done quite yet
Currently showing here, for those interested ... | | | | -fred |

| | Posted: | | | | Nice one Fred - like the search bar at the top - might have to try and emulate that (unless you want to do an Andrea and post the changes for us to borrow )
I'm also thinking I might have to do 2 PHP files - one for the general public (with less details), and one for myself/friends with everything. |

I'm also thinking I might have to do 2 PHP files - one for the general public (with less details), and one for myself/friends with everything. The one I did looks different if you are on my IP subnet than if not; for example it tells me where I've stored the DVD (I use the notes field for that) and it will list my purchase price, whereas it doesn't do those things if you aren't on the subnet. The mechanism I used could be trivially changed to support the concept of "friendly" source addresses; I tried to make it generic in case someone wanted to make the sort of change you mentioned.
I added a separate update file, though, because at almost 1900 DVDs I couldn't configure my php engine so that it didn't just smoke entering my collection. i made a common AddDVD() routine and then an action=update web-page thing, as in the original, and a separate update.php file that can run for the required 6 minutes from a command prompt :-) I didn't put in any locking and pretty "The database is being updated" messages because I'm just too lazy
if you want a zip with my versions, just shoot me an email ... | | | | -fred |

| | Posted: | | | | Yeah, I didn't record where at the time and now it's not very likely that i'll go through the 1800 or so dvds to enter it, even if I could remember, which, of course, i can't ... I started recording when fairly early on, although you might notice a clump of 45 or so with a date of May,1999; those i didn't record the date on ... | | | | -fred |
