After careful consideration, we've restricted online database lock voting to premium accounts only.  This change is effective immediately.

On Wednesday of this week (Nov 30), we will remove existing lock votes from non-premium accounts.  This grace period will allow anyone who wishes to upgrade their account time to do so before their lock votes are removed.

Note that this change does not affect contribution votes.  We will continue to monitor contribution votes for voting violations and take action as necessary.

Outstanding decision!  I'm sure that will help alleviate a lot of the abuses we've been hearing about, particularly in the areas outside Region 1.

Thank You, very much. We've been waiting that decision some time and hopefully this solves most of our problems.

Very good move, Ken. This gives another major incentive for people to upgrade, as well.

According to my calendar it is Nov 30, but the locks haven't yet been removed.

It's the middle of the night of Nov 30 here in the US.  What do you expect?  (Your message shows Nov 30 at 12:37 am.  So there.)

So when I wrote my message Nov 30 was already passed 37 minutes and locks still weren't removed. At least I expect that on information technology area things happen immediately. So when something is supposed to happen Nov 30 I presume it happens exactly Nov 30, 00.00 (that's 12.00 am for you guys living in 12hr world) unless otherwise stated. It is so bloody easy to do that kind of things automatically with some simple script.

On Ken's message there were no mention about time so I think it was justified to presume that those locks were removed at the beginning of Nov 30.

BTW, those locks aren't still removed, time being around 12.27 am - 03.27 am in USA and 10.27 am in here...

dear god spartacus, don't be an ass, who cares WHEN exactly those will be removed, Ken never ever promised 0:00 (release and change dates are never at 0:00, you should know that) so STFU

to all others: sorry for the flaming

If you really worked in IT you'd know things don't work that way very often!

Take a look at the thread which details how the weekly updates to the database are done (waiting for users people not to access a title being changed, copying from database to database etc.) and I think you'll start to see how these things can take longer to do than you'd think.
Just as another example we have central servers at work that if permisisons are changed on a directory for some users at 08:00 they won't propagate scross the network for some users for 4-6 hours anyway even after the change!

P.S. I am very pleased to hear this decision has been taken (though still sad there are idiots out there, whi like to ruin things for other people, that make it necessary)
